Take a walk-through video tour of Garden Home Recreation Center.
Garden Home Recreation Center was originally built in 1912 and used as a school. In fact, the school's original 1912 bell is still located at the center. In 1986, THPRD purchased the building (which had undergone many changes over the years) and gave it the present name.
Our mission is to provide recreational programs and classes of the highest quality that are affordable, accessible and safe. The classes and programs we offer are intended to enrich lives, stimulate your mind, incorporate fun and creativity, and develop the confidence, self-worth, health and well-being of each individual.
The center is also an access point to the historic Oregon Electric Railroad section of the Fanno Creek Trail. The section is 1.2 miles long and paved. Parking is available at GHRC.
Sanitary and storm sewer construction
to begin soon at Garden Home Recreation Center
Why?
The City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services will be building a much-needed new Fanno Creek pressure line. In addition, they will be replacing the sewer pipe that runs west along our Fanno Creek Trail from 86th Avenue, then along the west and north edge of the Garden Home Recreation Center open space.
When?
Construction will occur June through November. The construction will close our north parking lot. However, the majority of construction here at Garden Home Recreation Center will take place during fall term 2010. At that time, additional areas of our parking lot and outdoor playground/sports fields will be closed as well.
How will we take care of you?
Garden Home Recreation Center will be open for business as usual and we are committed to taking care of you during this time. Additional parking has been arranged behind Lamb’s Thriftway. Parking monitors will be on duty in both Garden Home’s and Lamb’s parking lots during busy times to assist our patrons and their families. The monitors will be available to safely get you from your car to the center or across the street to Lamb’s parking.
We thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We’re looking forward to seeing you at the Garden Home Recreation Center.
